Golden Voice is Providence's Sun-Singer, a priest of the Sunner religion. Sunners eschew the old gods along with the old ways, instead worshipping Mother Sun and Father Moon, whom they believe sent the Big Wet as a punishment for man's hubris and arrogance.

Twenty years ago, Golden Voice arrived in Providence as a missionary with the intention of converting as many people as he could before being chased out of town, like so many other places he'd visited. But the townsfolk welcomed him with open arms, and in less than a month the entire town had converted.

Golden Voice decided to stay, and use Providence's proximity to Newbegin to his advantage, preaching the word of Mother Sun to the traders that passed through.

Now approaching old age, Golden Voice is as much a part of Providence as Doc's trading post. His wisdom, patience and communal sings help bind the town together.

“Mother Sun is never false,” Golden Voice is often heard to say. But Michael's arrival, and the disaster that follows in his wake, will test the Sun-Singer's faith to the limit.
